Technology has been of great benefit to connect people around the world, and
access information in a quick and easy form, but it has been such a huge hit that it has
caused us to drown in it. Technology has changed the way humans interact, as people
no longer talk to each other face to face but instead use the internet to spend time with
one another. Although, the internet enables us to communicate from a distance, the
outcome of this accessible tool has been a barrier between a person and the real world.
Moreover, as simple as the phrase “living in the moment” sounds, it has become
difficult for us to enjoy our surroundings. We tend to get lost in past memories or in
future plans, but most important in the world of technology. We are so focused on
sharing every second of our life with the social media world that we actually forget to
appreciate it.
I’m not stating that internet is a useless tool because it isn’t; in fact what is
wrong with this technological hit is the incorrect use people give it. The information we
acquire from the internet should make our lives easier, but we insist on complicating it.
We prefer to take pictures and write about specific life moments that we are “enjoying”,
instead of taking in every second of that moment to make it an actual joyful memory.
So, what is the point of sharing a moment of your life with the world if you can’t even
recall it? Is it because all you remember is looking down at a bright screen to impress
the world?
The world has to understand that technology will always be waiting for us at
home, or anywhere else, but our life is limited. We only live for a certain period of time
and we will eventually realize the amount of time we wasted looking down at a screen.
So, instead regretting wasting your time in the internet world, treasure the small things
you experience in life, like the colors and warmth of a sunset. And believe me, your
future self will thank you for it.
